Creative Bucks is seeking a coordinator for their project Art Works For Business

Art Works for Business is a project that brings together business people and local artists across Buckinghamshire. It helps businesses find artists to bring creativity and innovation into their work, through exhibitions, team building work and residency opportunities, and provides them with the tools to manage the projects. In addition it helps artists gain valuable experience from business.

During 2009/10 we are seeking a Coordinator for approximately 35 days @ £150 a day to help us embed the scheme and move towards a sustainable future.  You will work closely with the two other team members promoting the scheme to new businesses and offering support to developing pilot projects that we can showcase as good practice. You will have excellent marketing skills, an interest and understanding of art, and be computer literate.

Creative Bucks was formed in 2004 under the name of Bucks Arts Partnership, the partners being all the local authorities in the County and Arts Council South East.

Art Works for Business 2009/10:  Coordinators Brief

Creative Bucks wishes to appoint a coordinator to work with Chris Rawson, Bucks County Council Economic Development and Vicky Hope-Walker, Creative Bucks Coordinator to deliver the Arts works for Business programme for 2009/10. 

1. Background

Art Works for Business is a scheme that encourages businesses to work with artists in a number of ways including:
-  exhibiting and selling their work taking a commission charge
-  providing residency opportunities
-  using artists for staff development through workshops/training 

It is also a scheme that encourages artists to work with businesses to:
-  gain exposure in a business environment
-  develop business acumen
 
The projects undertaken during 2007 and2008 provide a range of examples to further promote the scheme. 
 
During 2009/10 it is important for the scheme to move away from supporting individual partnerships between artists and businesses that can be resource intensive, instead encouraging them use the AWB website as a resource for managing their own projects. There will be a real emphasis on marketing the scheme to businesses, developing the website and seeking new funding sources. 

2. The Next Phase: Scope of work

Funding has been secured to further the development of the project and to seek to make it sustainable. The following work needs to be undertaken during 2009/10: 

1.  Exploration of and establishment of new funding opportunities, including support from new sources, advertising and participation in the scheme.
2.  Exploration of future management structures (ie. Social Enterprise, charity, linked to other existing organisations).
3.  Maintenance and development of the website promoting the scheme and providing information (e-portfolios) on the artists for Businesses.
4.  Exploration of options for making the website independent.
5.  The updating and implementation of a marketing plan to develop more business contacts with support from Bucks County Council Economic Development  and other District Councils.
6.  The continued branding and marketing of the work as 1. Retail 2. Workplace and 3. Destination based.
7.  Directing the focus on encouraging partnerships to use the website to develop work not the coordinator.
8.  Continued development work with a minimum of 8 venues across the County as identified by the work undertaken last year and with the views of the Partners taken on board as follows:
    a.  Aylesbury Vale – Business Hub,  Buckingham Festival, Bucks Hospitals, Aylesbury Town Centre Partnership
    b.  Chiltern District – Great Missenden Visual Arts Group (linked to the regeneration of the High Street), one Bed and Breakfast pilot and Chesham exploration.
    c.  South Bucks –Beaconsfield and Pinewood (possibly Dorney linked to 2012) 
    d.  Wycombe District – John Lewis and Eden.
9.  An evaluation of the work by March 2010 with guidance for continued development. 

The coordinator will be appointed for a twelve month period to undertake the work highlighted above. Their specific responsibilities will include:
•  Promoting AWB to business
•  Attending business breakfasts and meetings
•  Liaising with Chambers of Commerce and other business groups
•  Liaising with Retail groups
•  Liaising with Creative Bucks Partners about delivery of pilot projects in their specific districts
•  Promoting the scheme to artists through email
•  Producing case study material for the website
•  Producing case studies of best practice
•  Liaising with businesses already involved in AWB, liaison with the pilot project businesses and supporting their marketing effort
•  Assisting case study businesses with the production and distribution of marketing materials
•  Producing downloadable marketing templates for the website toolkit
•  Attending update and planning meetings and contributing to wider development
•  Organising an Artist training day
  

3. Outputs

-  Continued Website development and options for an independent site. The adding in of information on galleries and studios in the County.
-  8 Countywide projects including a Bed and Breakfast pilot and a hospital pilot.
    -  5 Increased business partners
    -  A sustainability plan
    -  An evaluation plan for 2009/10 
 

4. Resources 

4.1 Budget

There is a fee of £5,250 representing approximately 35 days work @ £150 a day, plus a travel allowance of £500. There is an initial project fund of  £1250 

4.2 Management Support

The Coordinator will be managed and supported by Vicky Hope-Walker, the Creative Bucks Coordinator and Chris Rawson one of the Partners.
 
In addition Chris Rawson BCC Economic Development will support the project through 25 days of work and Vicky Hope-Walker will support the project through 12 days of work.
 
The Partner Authorities can support the work with: photocopying, printing, postage etc to keep general administration costs to a minimum.
 
The Coordinator will be expected to report back to the management team every two weeks. This may be through a meeting, telephone conversation or brief report, dependent on what is appropriate. 

5. Timescales

The work needs to be undertaken between July 2009 and June 2010 

6. Location 

The location is flexible but the appointee will be expected to attend events and meetings across the whole county. It may be possible to provide a hot desk at one of the partner authorities.

8. Expertise and Background Requirements

The Coordinator in 2009/10 must have: 
•  a good understanding of the visual arts and crafts
•  excellent communications skills
•  Excellent marketing experience and knowledge
•  Good Website development knowledge
•  The ability to attract new sustainable business participants
•  The ability to understand arts sector and artists needs
•  Excellent IT skills
