John Lewis High Wycombe held its first seasonal art event for Buckinghamshire artists on 27/28 March in partnership with Art Works for Business. The event featured mixed media painter Zoe Eaton, glass artist Jessica Ecott and Debbie White, sculptor in paper and textile. The artists exhibited their work, gave demonstrations and were available throughout both days to talk to customers.
In a landmark decision, John Lewis gave the artists permission to sell their work on the shop floor, encouraging shoppers to buy unique local art at the store. Between them, the three artists sold work, received orders for private commissions and the offer of exhibition space in a Missenden Gallery as well as making many new contacts among the John Lewis staff and shoppers.
Art Works for Business and John Lewis were delighted with the event and are preparing for the remaining three seasonal events for 2009: Summer 29/30 May, Autumn 25/26 September, Winter 20/21 November. All events will include at least three artists working in different media who will be delighted to see you and discuss their work.
